Law Enforcement Guidelines
Last updated July 19, 2026
These guidelines explain how Retenta responds to law-enforcement and legal-process requests. They are informational and do not waive any right or defense, or create any obligation beyond what the law requires.
How to submit a request
Send valid legal process — subpoena, court order, or warrant, as appropriate to the data sought — to legal@retenta.ai. Please identify the relevant account (the email address or capsule), the specific data requested, and the legal authority for the request. We review each request for validity and scope and object to requests that are overbroad, defective, or unlawful.
What we can provide, and the process required
- Basic account records (e.g. the account email, creation date, plan) — with appropriate legal process.
- Capsule and usage metadata — with appropriate legal process.
- Stored content (capsule contents) — requires a warrant or its equivalent under applicable law. Note we do not offer end-to-end encryption, so content is technically accessible to us to operate the service.
We produce only what a valid request actually compels, and no more.
User notice
Our default is to notify affected users of requests for their data so they can seek to limit or challenge disclosure, unless we are legally prohibited (for example, by a valid non-disclosure order) or where notice would impede an active investigation into the serious abuse described in our Acceptable Use Policy.
Emergency requests
If a request involves an imminent threat to life or safety, mark it URGENT — EMERGENCY and send it to abuse@retenta.ai. We review emergency requests expeditiously and may voluntarily disclose limited information where we believe in good faith that doing so is necessary to prevent death or serious physical harm, consistent with applicable law.
Preservation
We honor valid preservation requests and will preserve available account records for a reasonable period pending service of formal legal process. Evidence tied to the abuse we detect is preserved independently, as described below and in ourPrivacy Policy.
Child safety (CSAM)
We do not wait for a request where child sexual abuse material is concerned. When our trust-and-safety systems confirm CSAM, we preserve the evidence, remove the content, andreport proactively to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and cooperate with the resulting investigation, as required by law.
