Trust methodology

Read the evidence, not the badge.

The Observatory reports several narrow facts instead of compressing provenance, quality, safety, and popularity into one score.

What each label means

Official publisher

Source provenance

The cited source is controlled by the organization named as publisher. This does not mean Retenta independently verified its safety, quality, or behavior.

Source reviewed

Original assessment

An editor read the complete pinned SKILL.md plus the cited install and license evidence, then wrote the stated strengths, boundaries, and suitable uses. Each record lists its review files. A source review is not an execution test.

Behavior not tested

Execution evidence

The catalog did not run the skill for this record. Documentation and source can support compatibility claims, but observed runtime behavior requires a separate test.

Unverified

Independent verification

No independent reviewer has verified the catalog claim. “Official” and “source reviewed” never silently promote a record to verified.

Indexing rule

No assessment, no search landing page.

A catalog record is indexable only when it contains an original assessment tied to a stable source. A future automated import may exist for processing, but without that assessment its page receives noindex, nofollow and is omitted from the sitemap.

Unverified records may be indexed when they have an original assessment, but the unverified label remains visible. Verification is evidence, not an SEO prerequisite and never a synonym for popularity.

Ratings, install counts, security findings, commit hashes, and test results are shown only when the catalog has a cited record for them. The Observatory publishes no ratings today.

Editorial guides pass a second gate.

A guide needs original analysis, official references for adjacent platform claims, links to assessed skill records, and at least 700 modeled editorial words. The word floor prevents metadata-only imports from becoming search pages; it is not a ranking target.

What a record must preserve

  • An immutable publisher URL, or an exact public snapshot when the repository is not public
  • A full source revision and capture date
  • Linked license evidence that distinguishes repository-wide, per-skill, restricted, and undeclared terms
  • Required secrets, network access, and tools
  • Compatibility evidence for each named agent
  • Known limitations and cases where it should not be used

The product connection

Skills need memory with an audit trail.

Retenta capsules give agent workflows durable state with provenance, versions, and portable source material—the memory layer behind the instructions.
